PAHCOM: Professional Association of Health Care Office Management

The development of the Certified Medical Manager (CMM) program is an indicator of the membership's motivation toward professional recognition of their vocation. The program was developed with strong member participation and set high standards for attaining certification status. The comprehensive three-hour examination covers eighteen areas identified as crucial to the smooth operation of a physician practice: Billing and Collections, Coding Analysis, Communications, Compliance, Conflict Management, Employment and Payroll, Financial Planning, Health Care Law, Human Resources, Managed Care, Managing and Leading, Practice Accounting, Practice Marketing, Practice Structure, Risk Management, Systems Analysis and Design, Third Party Reimbursement, and Time Management.

The Professional Association of Health Care Office Management. Effort is focused on opening the communication links of such practices with each other as well as other health care providers such as hospitals, medical associations, medical societies, vendors and so forth. The motto "PAHCOM Shares Knowledge" states very concisely the purpose of the Association. The continuous pursuit of excellence in the management of physician office practices is the overriding long term strategic goal of PAHCOM.

NACE offers over 100 home study courses (many of which are online courses) for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family counselors, and substance abuse counselors. These courses are approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and other state boards and organizations. There are two types of home study courses: those that are mailed to you for completion and those that are completed online. NACE also offers CME for Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Physicians. Some courses have a fee, and others are free/sponsored.

Video on Preventing Operating Room Fires


The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation offers a free 18-minute video, Prevention and Management of Operating Room Fires, on its Web site. The video promotes best practices regarding the prevention of fires in the operating room (OR), including controlling oxygen concentration levels at or near the surgical site, and extrapolates OR fire statistics based in part on analysis of events reported to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority.

Free CE on Psoriasis for PA's and NP's thru June 30th, 2010


PA and NP 1.0 credit thru 6-30-10 on using biologics in treating Psoriasis.

Objectives:
  • Identify patients who may be candidates for transitioning to biologic therapy
  • Apply patient-based characteristics in determining treatment choices
  • Formulate treatment strategies for managing loss of efficacy with biologic agents, including transition to other agents and implementation of combination therapy
